Hi, Welcome! to a Timeless Dance of Art Inspired by
Dreams & Visions, Spirit & Nature...
"Ocean's Galaxy" acrylic on canvas, 40" x 30"
From a dream-vision of an ancient legend that whales and dolphins guided humans across the cosmos to be our mentors and guides on Earth. (And, of course, jellyfish with their conundrum of both inspiring beauty and stinging venom joined in too!) This painting was created while living in Florida's Gulf Coast, kayaking with dolphins and all manner of sea life, from manta rays and manatees to jellyfish and sharks...

"Dream Tide" acrylic on canvas, 16" x 20", this painting arrived first as a vivid dream, the mountains behind resonating with beautiful harmonics, a Cascading waterfall for hair, snow leopard, rainbows, lotus flowers opening and a meditating buddha, with a cloud dragon in the upper center sky, I woke from the dream and began this one at 3 AM, while the dream remained fresh an vitally alive. Available as prints, contact me regarding the availability of the original painting.

"Raven Triad Mandala" acrylic on canvas, 18" x 24" from an old Celtic legend of the egg of creation, containing all of us - everything that exists, alive, breathing conscious, with a triad of very ravenous ravens each trying to get the egg for themselves, together they hold the egg balanced in their beaks, each swirling, round and round creating a vortex they set the cosmos and life itself in motion...

("In Each Moment, We Birth the Future", acrylic on canvas, emerging from a mix of dreams, historical art, societal dichotomies, and contemporary events; the “Three Graces” (goddesses) watch over the chaos, misadventures, and musings of current societies, helping midwife a hopeful future. Wayward ones, misinformed, weighted with racist bigoted bias, carry signs translated for what they really mean, while a bloated tyrant blathers them on. Monuments to hierarchy and proclaimed aspirations of democracy, the Capitol building and an ancient Greek temple burn within. Beautiful mountains gift clear waters in cascading falls. On a stepped pyramid, inspired people celebrate with music. Below, Earth opens a deep crevice, wolves watch the human inanity near the pictographs of those whose land this really is. Sheltered from the chaos, an ageless yogi meditates on the meaning of life. Above, Eagle and Condor fly together, with the three goddesses/graces reminding us of life choices, our place in community, in time, and how, in each moment, together we birth the future… (see close up detail photos at left)

"Heron's Marsh"
acrylic on canvas, some paintings stories are much simpler, a reminder to ourselves of the magic of this living Earth, of the beauty and wonder of the wildlife with which we share this amazing world... inspired by the wetlands around Eugene Oregon and the Cascade Mountains.

"The Edge of Light", acrylic on canvas, inspired by a wild musical dream that spanned dimensions and defied time, of the interplay of light, darkness, and being... This is also the cover of a new album by our band, Lotus Unfolding:

"Know Justice, Know Peace ~ No Justice - No Peace!", acrylic on canvas, 16" x 20", 2020. There are times when art cannot be silent, as silence would be complicity in atrocities reprehensible beyond words. Inspired by honoring the lives of people taken from us all too soon by the 'police-state' horrors of systemic racism. Breona Taylor, George Floyd, Tamir Rice, a woman from MOVE among those bombed in Philadelphia in 1985, and Fred Hampton whose eloquent activism (before he was assassinated by the Chicago police and the FBI) inspired many of us working in alliance with the Black Panther Party long ago (in part I learned to cook for many people by volunteering in the "Free Breakfast for Children" programs begun by the Black Panther Party back when I was still a teenager.
This painting was juried into the Eugene, Oregon 'Mayor's Art Show 2020' where it received the Mayor's Choice Award for paintings and 2-dimensional art. This is also available as a Black Lives Matter poster.

"The Chi-Energy of Trees", acrylic on canvas, 18" x 24", 2020. This was inspired by an Australian friend who queried 'what would it be like to paint not just the way trees appear, but their dance of energy and being'... The first version of this painting (pictured here) is in a private collection, a second version The Chi -Energy of Trees II is still available.
"Whale Song" acrylic on canvas, 18" x 24", 2020. Inspired by a song our band Lotus Unfolding created, which in turn was inspired by the 'thousand mile' songs of Humpback Whales... "Moonlight Ocean Whale Song" on our Lotus Unfolding BandCamp site, is an improv mix of electric sitar, cello, chimes, and vocals: Moonlight Ocean Whale Song | Lotus Unfolding (bandcamp.com)
"Lynx Moon" acrylic on canvas, 11" x 14", 2020. Lynx, cougars, bobcats - all wildcats - are among my favorites to encounter in nature's wild wonderlands... when I come across them, keeping a respectful distance, I sing spirit songs to them, and it usually creates a calmness where we can hang out neaby for awhile.

"A Melody of Centuries"
acrylic on canvas, 16" x 12", 2020. Inspired by our adventures hiking the ancient forest wonderlands of the western Cascades Mountains... I've always loved the way sunlight plays on flowered meadows beneath giant ancient trees.

"If I Could Tell You the Meaning of Life (Life Would Have No Meaning)"
acrylic on canvas, 11" x 14", 2020.
Inspired by a dream weaving a multiplicity of meanings and mysteries underlying the many unknowns of life... why? perhaps answers, ever in search of their questions, are but part of this ever ephemeral dance of transcendence...

A triptych exploring other dimensions & the realms of energy and light:
"Journey Across the Dimensions", acrylic on canvas, 24" x 18", 2020,
first painting in the triptych.
These three paintings first arose in a dream of journeying across dimensions, bodies shed, we became beings of energy and light. Dark matter wove like fibrous weaves, nets undulating, changing; while light opened into its multifaceted prismatic colors, each filled with different emotions, charged with vital energies of existence and interwoven magic...

"Song of Light" acrylic on canvas, 16" x 20", 2020,
second painting of the triptych.
Amidst the shifting weave of dark matter and energetic colors, light beings floated, darted, and peacefully stilled. Harmonic musical symphonies filled the senses, resonated across space-time continuums, welling with resilient healing energies and creative magic...

Third painting in this triptych: A swirling black hole pulled and undulated the weave of dark matter and prismatic light, feathery energy light beings exploring the adventures, harmonics, and wonders of this vast dimension, curious as what may await beyond the swirling black hole inviting them in its whirlpools and depths where dark matter and light found fusion and transcendence in the mysterious knowing dimensions beyond...

"Pandemic Pandemonium" acrylic on canvas, 14" x 11", 2020.
Inspired by the exponentially spreading emergence of the coronavirus across the Earth during traditional Carnival celebrations of life, reminding us all of our interconnection as humans, our vulnerability, our mortality, and the transcendence and resilient magic of life and spirit... Wishing everyone health, wellness and resilience, compassion, caring and courage through these viral times.

"Star-Path (Milky-Way) Mountain Buddha Night"
acrylic on wood panel, 25" x 29", 2020
This and its companion piece below are part of a project renovating a former school bus into a home for a family in need. Various artists have been creating wood panel paintings to help cover some of the many bus windows with art for the family's privacy and creative enjoyment. While these two original artworks are in private ownership, they are also - like most all art of mine - available as prints, cards, and giclees.

"Moonlight Ocean",
acrylic on canvas, 12" x 9", 2019. Inspired by one of our many trips to the Oregon coast, on long beach wanders, clambering over the tumbled tumult of basalt rocks, watching the incredible ever-changing beauty and wonder of Ma Ocean, wave after wave splashing and lapping ashore...

"Beneath Red Sun (when Dreams become Smoke & Ash)"
acrylic on canvas, 14" x 11", 2019.
Inspired by the depth and breadth of changes wrought in the wake of forest fires, both the recent ones in California as well the 1996 fire that burned 23,000 acres including my then land in eastern Oregon, turning my home, including thousands of my art works, and the homes of 14 of my neighbors into naught but embered smoke and ash...

"Inheritance (What Do You Do When Your Home's On Fire?)
This 12" x 9" acrylic on canvas painting arose from a dream inspired by contemporary youth activists across the Earth working on issues of climate change, ecological justice, and ensuring a future for the generations yet to be... (see the posters page for a poster version of this painting too!) |
"Great Grey Owl" acrylic on canvas, 12" x 16", 2019, part of a series on imperiled wildlife of the Pacific Northwest. Dependent on old growth forests, Great Grey Owls' populations and distribution have diminished due to logging, excessive roads, disturbance, and development of their once vast beautiful ancient forest homes...

"American Marten"
acrylic on canvas, 9" x 12", also dependent on intact ancient forests, the rampant excessive logging of the region's once vast forests have diminished marten populations, with some subspecies like the Humboldt Marten seriously imperiled. "Eye of the Hurricane"
Inspired by issues of climate change and Earth's ocean life, this 16" x 20" acrylic on canvas painting swirls with the hurricane forces of oceanic changes already in motion, imbued with hopes for the futures of all life and the miracles so-needed inherent in us all... this painting arrived accompanied by this haiku:

Ocean Swirls Frenzied Waters

"Shhhh... Anthropocene Myths ~ Extinction's Realities" this 24" x 18" acrylic on canvas painting is inspired by a series on interwoven dream-visions about humanity's propensity to immerse ourselves in obfuscation and denial rather than proactively make the changes needed to stem the tides of extinction and ensure a wondrously beautiful world for the generations yet to be... spotted owl joins with a monarch butterfly and caterpillar, an xerces blue butterfly, a honey bee, and a couple of dream cats helping wake humans from their self entranced societal narcissism, helping us remember we share a wondrous world with many diverse kindred species...
Anthropocene Myths ~

Light swirling, dancing, refracting into darkness
stars, supernovas, galaxies, mysteries of cosmic wonder
ephemeral transient beings all, a myriad of species
all linked together, co-evolved in this ecological weave of life
may we awaken to the magic all truly are, honoring the balance of life and spirit, of living Earth, for the generations yet to be...

"Storm Rider" acrylic on canvas, 12" x 9" celebrating spring's mix of warm sun and thunder rains, dry creeks and ponds flowing with rain and mountain snow-melt again...
"Neuronic Synapse - a Mind-Field Journey" acrylic on canvas, 16" x 20" The human mind can be a bizarre thing (as evidenced daily by the moronic misogynist racist demagogues in political power - but also on a daily basis with the myriad mayhem of humanity itself). This painting playfully strays into the inner tangles of psyche, rekindling a couple painting themes from long ago - two done in high school before my 60's era revolutionary rebellion got me expelled, and one from art university days, one kept by a teacher, others sold long ago, another burned in a forest fire - and here's the most recent incarnation...

"Beyond the Dimensions of Earth and Time"
acrylic with glitter glaze on canvas, 22" x 28", 2018. Ever wonder about the multidimensional journeys beyond this life and time? A dream vision journey with a spirit tree, a crescent moon boat, rippling flute music and a cat that came to visit for awhile on its way to a new home... |
8th St. and Park Ave. in downtown Eugene, on a corner that features the Saturday Market from spring through fall. The mural is considerably larger than the painting at 42.5" by 35," and was painted over two days in the fall of 2018.

- A playful parody of juried art shows - both the challenge of selecting a few among the many for the jurors and the rather mystifying travails of having your art on "trail by jury" for the artist. (I laughed my way through painting this!) Created just in time for the jurried 2018 Eugene Oregon Mayor's Art Show, this parody was selected for the Mayor's Show at the Hult Center in Eugene, followed by a smaller version of the Mayor's art show at the Eugene Airport. Can you guess the 6 renowned historical artists in the painting - hint, they are taken from their own self portraits, the pose just slightly changed as I painted them to fit this composition. Bonus as an added guess - who are the two contemporary regional artists in the painting?
"Absaroka Mom"
acrylic on canvas, 22" x 28", 2018
Inspired by wanders in the Absaroka Beartooth Mountain Wilderness in Montana, this painting celebrates grizzlies, our innate connection with this amazing species, and their inherent rights to live wild and ever free!

"Living in a Time of Madness and Mourning, When the Old Buried the Young" acrylic on canvas, 12" x 16", 2018
What is there to say, what madness of $ and power prevail, when a society values guns above the lives of its own children, the future of us all? A sad painting to create, yet silence would be complicit in the insanity of it all... |
"Forest Night II" acrylic on canvas, 12" x 16"

"To Heal the Earth",
acrylic on canvas, wrapped and pegged branch frame, with turquoise beaded cutouts, 31" x 21.5", 2018
A recent recreation - though itself very different - of one of the many paintings that were burned in the forest fire of 1996 that hit my land and home. As the painting emerged on the easel, these words arrived as well:
"In the Weave of Our Touch, the Dances of Our Lives,

"Snow Leopard"
acrylic on canvas, 16" x 20", 2018
Celebrating wildlife & nature's wondrous habitats, reminding us all of our interconnection with all Earth's wild ones. As our global societies imperil wildlife, including snow leopards and so many others, we - and the generations yet to be - too are imperiled. Reminding us of nature's inherent magic, that we too are part of nature's wonders, relearning, remembering how to live in balance with all our relations; to protect and celebrate all Earth's amazing life - our creative inspirations, our spirit guides through timeless adventures, our wisest teachers, part of the raison d'etre of life itself...

"Shine Stardust - No One Can Dance Your Dance But You!"
Each being its own beauty, each its own raison d'etre, we are wealthy in our diversity, our creativity, our capacity for the limitless love and adventure of life! This image danced in my being, calmly, incessantly insisting on its artistic emergence (including the solar eclipse).

"Time? - Oh Just Ignore the Silly Little Man"
A love of cats of all kinds and sizes, wild, lithe, grace in motion, jeweled eyes mesmerized deep contemplation in the ever 'now' of being...
One never knows what creative flights will emerge as the magic muse arises within. This drawing danced into being while listening with my wife Sylvia to our band's music, reviewing recording qualities as we prepare for yet another musical performance. Available as the original, prints, and art cards.

This"Waterfall Serenade"
Painted while living in the Smoky Mountains caring for my elderly father. Sylvia and I love to hike, exploring the region's wild wonders. On this adventure we paused for awhile, meditating alongside one of the trail's waterfalls, calling in nature's kindred wild.
